importantly, the two of us attended the funeral. there's no one around me that i know of. no faces of the past, no familiar figures, ghosts or whatsoever.
clad in black, i looked into one of the coffin for one last time before they lowered the coffins six feet under. slowly, it creaked as the old wooden boxes are lowered.
once the coffins are earthed, she steps up to the pedestal to give her eulogy. tears trickled down her cheeks with every word she said, staining the very piece of note she's reading from. her eyes never met mine though she occasionally looked up to the crowd. it is as cold as misery.
after a gruelling fifteen-minute speech tribute, its my turn. taking out the neatly folded note from my pocket, i read out firmly and solemnly. and with every word spoken, i looked up to the crowd especially at her. she was hopelessly crying.
i mentioned, 'its a loss for those who cared, to go through. we're in this together, and we move on together. life's too short to worry so much on why we lose things and sometimes people that we care.' the crowd gave a slight nod in agreement.
all of them, except for her.
i left after my speech, turning back to take one last look at her... and the engraved tombstones, of her deceased heart... next to mine.
